in the piata: oh, the tragedy. . .
So today, after I got finished at work, David and I headed to the piata. It’s a fun busy place that I’m growing to really like. I’ll have to see if I can bring my camera there and snap some photos.
I picked up beautiful tomatoes, a bunch of cucumbers (I’m going to try to make dill pickles for David), and a great-looking watermelon (for 2.5RON or 75cents). But, the tragedy that gripped my heart and tore it to shreds was that the peaches have disappeared entirely. I know it’s quasi-blasphemous that I’m eating peaches from any other locale than my homestate of South Carolina, which inarguably has the best peaches on the planet. I mean, I still dream of Reggie’s dad’s peach stand off of Hwy 25. But Romanian peaches are a great second. They are fuzzy (which is a must) with juice that drips down your chin. And I could eat an entire meal of them. And now they are gone and I will miss them.
I guess I’ll just have to stick around for a year so that I can enjoy next summer’s crop of peaches.
