on the road: recap of Pisa, Italy

We started our Italian adventure in the city of Pisa. And it’s a fabulous sleepy city. Practically speaking it has cheap airline tickets to get there (woot Wizz Air!), an airport close to town, everyplace is within walking distance. From a visitor’s perspective, while it has its touristy hotspot, there are small streets to meander where you get a feel for life. We loved it all — touristy Leaning Tower stuff and cobblestone streets.

Breakdown:
Days: about one full day and one night (15 – 16 April)
Lodging: We stayed at the Delfo Hostel in private double rooms for 19€/person/night. It was spotless, beautiful, in a nice and convenient neighborhood, with a fantastic kitchen, and had a wonderful host (shout out, Francesco!). Probably the best accommodations we had in Italy.
Visited:

  • Piazza del Duomo (Duomo, Baptistry, & Leaning Tower)
  • Piazza dei Cavalieri
  • Botanical Gardens
  • Santa Maria della Spina (on the Arno)
  • Keith Haring mural
