mini-resolution: grace in small things

It’s November. One of my favorite months of the year. It’s fall. Leaves are changing color. There’s a nip in the air. Thoughts start drifting towards turkey and dressing. Making it the perfect time for an exercise in gratefulness.

Keeping big-picture gratefulness in mind comes easier to me: I have a roof over my head, food on my table, clothes on my back, a loving partner and family and even a little money in the bank. There are many people in the world that don’t have those. There but by the grace of God.

The sort of gratefulness that is a challenge for me right now is to find grace in small things of everyday life. My life has changed massively in the last few months and I find myself a stranger in a strange land with few friends, a ton to learn, and not a whole lot to do. So in an effort to accentuate the positive this month and choose happiness, I’m going to be grateful for and acknowledge the grace I find in the small things in my life here — in the newness, the strangeness, the slowness, the confusion, the frustration, and the adventure. My plan is to find five graces each day and post them here. I’m hoping to post a photo each day to go alongside the list.

Happy Fall and Happy November, y’all.

Update: My friend Laura Simms of Create as Folk has started a November  “Instagram Challenge of Tiny Proportions.”  It’s a gratefulness challenge with a side of bunny. Should you choose to join in, simply tag your grateful/grace in small things photo in your instagram feed as #thedailybon!
